The following quote perfectly sums up their approach: Whereas a large part of Homework, Daft Punk’s debut album, was crafted of samples of funk and soul records, Discovery saw them experiment more with recording their own samples. Their legendary career gave us four groundbreaking studio albums, the Tron: Legacy soundtrack, two movies and two classic live albums.
